Learning How To Be Optimist

BEING AN OPTIMIST IS HARDER THAN YOU THINK

First things first, I'm not the most optimistic person in the world. I'll try my best to be a positive, happy person but sometimes life can be pretty tough. And in those situations I tend to think the worst in a situation, and go into a little spiral of stress (although I'm pretty good at hiding it), though I'm thinking it's time for a change. It's time to start seeing things in the most positive way possible! So I thought I'd get together a little list of things to consider whenever something stressful happens or whenever you feel yourself start to think pessimistically (that's a big word.)
(and I know you can see my very bad tan line - sorry :)

FIGURING OUT THE LESSON
Everything that happens to you is an opportunity to learn a new lesson, so you might just need to ask yourself, well what have I learnt? Whether it's simple a lesson, like, 'don't drive on that road at rush hour,' or maybe something a little more complicated - there's usually a lesson to be learnt. And that's the first step in thinking positively.

LOOKING ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
This might be the most cliche point on this little list but I think it's something I envy people for most. I know so many people who can shrug off any situation by 'looking on the bright side.' Not got that job? You can learn from your messy interview and improve next time. Had that argument? At least you said how you felt and your relationship will be stronger. Day out cancelled? Hey, now you can sit on the sofa and binge watch a new show on Netflix.

PUTTING IT ALL INTO PERSPECTIVE
Oh, here's a little trick I learned recently that has super-duper helped me out. It's called the 72-hour rule and it's pretty simple: if it won't matter in 72 hours time, it doesn't matter at all. Put it into perspective and make the judgement of whether it's going to matter later in your life. So your broke that chair or had that argument - if you know it'll all be okay in three days then you need to take a deep breath and clean up the mess nice and calmly.

Being optimistic all the time can be hard, but really, it's all about stepping back from a situation, being calm and yup - looking on the brighter side.

  9. I'm not always the best optimist but I try and stay away from being a pessimist but accepting that sometimes bad things happen and sometimes good things happen. So I try and not take for granted those good times and to look on the bright side (and at the bigger picture) when going through a bad time.

  10. I love your skirt and the flowers!! So lovely! And these are super nice tips...I do struggle to be an optimist.😂But I tend to try and put things into perspective: like with the "if it doesn't matter in a while, does it have to matter now?" Sometimes that doesn't work, or isn't applicable, but sometimes it is and can help to calm things down!

    1. I used to overthink literally EVERYTHING (and I still do sometimes), but putting everything into perspective is the perfect way to work out what you might need to healthily be concerned about and what you don't!

  16. I will say it's easier as you get older, but focusing on the positives you can pull from the situation is always a good idea.
