10 Books To Read This Summer

Monday, 9 May 2016

 Hello Guys and Gals,

Summer is one of my favourite times of the year, its the time where most of us get 6 glorious weeks to do what you wish! You can wear shorts when its raining, eat birthday cake for breakfast (even though its nobody's birthday) and sit playing Colour Switch for hours on end!
But putting all of those 'wonderful' things aside, Summer is also the perfect time for reading. You've got 6 weeks to catch up on all of those books you're friends have been nagging you to read, 6 weeks to finally delete all of those BookTuber screenshots and 6 weeks to sit somewhere sunny and read (whilst getting that perfect glowy tan of course!)
Thinking about all of this - I decided to write a list of 20 books that are perfect for reading this summer. (Most of them have actually come from summer reading lists me and my friend Lauren give each other on the last day of school!)
Let's get going....

1. The Selection Series
By Kiera Cass
This is honestly one of my favourite series!
During Summer I hate to be weighed down with massive long books (plus you can't travel anywhere with them) so shorter books are always a bonus!
The Selection Series is a collection of 4 (soon to be 5) books that are stunning reads!
These books are the kinda books that have to be read in the sun, whether its in your back garden or by a pool in Spain, these books are perfect for summer and the storyline in fabulous!
Review coming soon (hehe!)

Order of Books:
The Selection
The Elite
The One
The Heir
The Crown (coming soon)

2. Red Queen Series
By Victoria Aveyard
Everybody had heard of this series - simply because it's so brilliant!
Victoria is such a amazing author who creatively uses characters to write a story that everybody wants to read!
I wanted to read these books for so long and when I finally got my hands on them they were read very quickly with a lot of pleasure!
I'm not going to say much more (my review of Red Queen is linked further down - hehe!)

Order of Books:
Red Queen
Glas Sword
Cruel Crown

3. Gemma Doyle Series
Libba Bray
A Victoria boarding school, a Gothic mansion mystery, a clique of girlfriends and a dark fantasy - jumble them all together and you have this unusual first novel. It feautures around sixteen-year-old Gemma who was brought up in India, until the day she foresees her mothers death - which turns out to be true.
Gemma is soon sent back to England where she is enrolled in a girls' academy with a mysterious burned-out East Wing.
This may sound like a historical/fantasy version of 'Gossip Girl', but as the story progresses we learn more secrets and travel to more places than you can ever imagine!

Order of Books:
A Great and Terrible Beauty
Rebel Wings
The Sweet Far Thing

4. Paper Towns
John Green
I know most of you will have already read this book, but it seems like such a 'Summer Read' and if you haven't read it - I would definitely recommend it! This is such a beautiful book that is a really coming-of-age tale, featuring characters who you will honestly love!
Our main character is Quentin Jacobsen, who has spent his entire life loving the crazy adventurous Margo Roth; so when she cracks open his window and climbs into his life - he follows her. And after their all-nighter  revenge ends, and a new day begins, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo has disappeared. However Q soon finds a series of clues - and they're for him.
The story follows Q and his crazy group of friends to find Margo!

5. Matched (Series)
Ally Condie
This is a seriously under-rated series, most people hardly know of this series!
In the Society, officials decide. Who you love, where you work, when you die.
Our main character - Cassia - has always trusted their choices and the decisions they made. Although you don't get to choose, trusting them and respecting them can give you a long life, a perfect job and an ideal mate.
So when her best friend appears on the Matching screen, Cassia knows that he is the one - until she sees anotherf ace flash across the screen for an instant - for the first time in her life, she has the choice.

Order of Books :

6. Just Listen
Sarah Dessen
Last year, Annabel was the 'girl who had everything'.
This year she's the girl who has nothing: no best friend because mean-but-exciting Sophie dropped her; no peace at home since her older sister became anorexic; and no one to sit with at lunch. Until, of course, she meets Owen Armstrong. And with Owens help, maybe she can finally overcome what happened between her and Sophie the night the stopped being friends.

7. The Sky is Everywhere
Jandy Nelson
This book follows seventeen-year-old Lennie Walker, extreme bookworm who plays clarinet and spends her time in the shadow of her fiery older sister Bailey.
But after Bailey dies suddenly, Lennie is thrown into the centre stage of her life, and despite her terrible history with boys, she finds she's balancing two.
This is a fabulous read by the ever brilliant Jandy Nelson!

8. Georgia Nicholson (Series)
Lousie Rennison
This is a light summer series that is perfect for the holidays.
This is a series based on Georgia's journal, we see her daily life and what her and her crazy friends get up to. This is a hilarious series of about 10 books (I think)! This series is not challenging, just a light and easy read for the holidays.

9. Ruby Red
Kerstein Gier
Gwyneth Shepherd's sophisticated cousin, Charlotte, had been prepared and been taught her entire life for time travel and travelling through the ages.
But suddenly in the middle of a class, Gwyneth is transported into a different era, however when travelling back in time, she uncovers many lies.
She must unearth the mystery of why her mother would lie about her birth date and she must work with Gideon - another time traveller from a gifted family. Together they must discover who in the 18th century and in contemporary London, they can trust!

One of these wormholes being to last summer, when her grandfather died.
To the afternoon she fell in love with Jason, who couldn't even hold her hand at the funeral.
To the day her best friend Thomas moves away and left her behind with a scar on a her hand and a black hole in her memory.
