7 Reasons Why Bookworms Freak Out At The End Of The Year

I'M ACTUALLY FREAKING OUT SEND HELP

It's only a few weeks until the end of 2017 forever and all bookworms are officially freaking out. There seems to be this impending doom looming over all bookworms, we still have a million things to do and everyone is having their end of year crisis. Now you may be asking 'but whyyy' as you sip your eggnog and eat celebrations and wonder if it's worth the Christmas aesthetic to walk upstairs and fetch some fluffy socks.
So let me educate you with 7 points about WHY BOOKWORMS PANIC at the end of every. Single. Year.

YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER EVERY SINGLE BOOK YOU'VE READ

Thank the Lord for goodreads because without it I'd spend the last month of the year ripping up my bookshelf and messing with my mind until I figure out which books I have read and which I haven't.

Most of my bookish conversations in December go like this:
Human : have you read this fabuloussss book?
Me : Yeah I read it way back in March
Human : Do you remember the part when -
Me : hahahha no let me stop you there human - no. No I don't, don't ask me anything I have no idea what it's even about.

BOOK BLOGGERS DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THEIR LIVES

This gets me every yearrrr. I literally find myself asking myself the same questions over and over again:

Do I post as normal over the festive period?
Do I not post as most people will be busy anymore?
Do I write not-so-fabulous novels instead?
Or should I just flap around like a confused chicken wondering what to do?

and people wonder why book-lovers are so very stressed.

WE ARE FORCED TO PICK OUR FAVOURITE BOOK OF THE YEAR

Whyyy. You people just are always so desperate to hear what my favourite book of the year is - which is hardddd when you've read 30 books and half of them weren't even published this year. It's stressful, lists have to be made and highlighters have to be taken out and ( as much fun as it is organising it all ) it is still stressful.

It's not fun when you've also rated these books a five star. Can authors stop publishing such good books? It's flippin' hard to choose a faaaaaave when they're all the best.
The books also speak to diferent parts of your soulll. Literally. Come on it's like comparing apples and oranges (apples all the way but ya get the point kids.)

And there's a difference between this book made my cry I love it and this book made me laugh until I cry I love it. Thank you very much.

NO ONE ACHIEVED THE GOALS SET FOR 2017

(if you did I'm incredibly proud of you. You must be very magical.)
My plan for next year is to set myself VERY low targets I can achieve literally in my sleep. #overachieving

As it turns out I've read just over 30 books this year and have achieved absolutely nothing.

However every blogger and book-lover out there seems to be creating MUST READS FOR 2018 lists that make me want to cry and hide away.

TOO MANY INCREDIBLE BOOKS ARE BEING RELEASED IN 2018

I get to December and suddenly ever author every decides to reveal the release dates for all of their new books. (and we know they're all just gunna end up on my TBR list)

I've barely finished books released in 2017. Not gonna lie I've still got books from 2014 I need to read.

It's fine. EVERYTHING IS FINE. we're all good here.

END OF YEAR READING SLUMPS

I am the most unmotivated little cinnamon roll in December. I've worked hard this year and all I want to do is sleep and eat and wrap presents and sleep and unwrap presents and sleep. There's just too much food around - I get distracted.

I've finished off my goodreads and my TBR list is just too long to deal with right now.

I mean, thank you SO MUCH my wonderful friends for buying me books for Christmas but seriously the TBR list is just too much.

PLANNING WHAT YO GUNNA READ IN 2018

Don't get me wrong everyone, I love making lists and cracking out the highlighters and googling new boooootiful books to be released.
But am I reading more? Less? A specific genre? Going on a buying book ban? Buying all the books until I'm poor?

Just think about next year as a new, fresh start. It'll be allllll good. *famous last words*

What was your favourite book of 2018?

Lots of love,
Grace

  1. How do you know my life so well? Are you a secret agent? A spy? A pirate with the magical ability to tour people's minds? (Okay, don't tell me.) You explained my Christmas break, which is supposed to be relaxing, as I always freak out the closer it gets to New Year's. The blogging, the reading, the freaking out about how little cake I've eaten. It all gets too much, so once in a while I may flap around like a chicken. Have a great day procrastinating!

    1. Sorry, can't reveal my secret identity ;)
Don't worry hun - I flap around like a chicken 99% of my life, and ALL BOOKWORMS FREAK OUT. Everyone else is celebrating and having fun at New Years, but me? Nah, I'm crying in a corner and not being able to look at my TBR pile. It's all too much.
Thanks for the lovely comment babe x
