HERE ARE 5 LITLE WAYS TO HELP PROTECT THE PLANET

The weight of the state of the world can get on top of me sometimes. We all have personal stuff going on - our own health issues, arguments, family dramas, beef with friends and broken washing machines. Everyone has something beefy going on behind closed doors that no one else knows about - which is why you should be nice to anyone and everyone. Period. And even though sometimes it's hard to step outside your own bubble and see the bigger picture, when you DO take a minute to look at the world around you, you might have noticed it's in a bit of a state.

Everyday I try and make myself a better person, and one thing we can all do to become better people is to look after the planet. So I thought I'd share some little ways to look after the world. I promise they're just simple easy habits you can all do.

STOP BUYING SOOOOO MUCH PLASTIC
We're using too much plastic. If you don't use it - you won't have to recycle all of it in the first place. Most of there time, there is NO NEED to buy plastic bottles of water. Even at school and work, don't buy the bottles of water. Take your own bottle and fill it up - it's such a small habit that makes a big difference. Don't like the taste of tap water? Throw in a lemon or lime. Be extra!
Don't use plastic shopping bags! Buy ones for a little extra money (like 10p come on guys) that you can use over and over again. It's little things like this that make the difference.

REDUCE YOUR WATER USAGE
Thinking about it - I don't think I use THAT much water. I'm aware that I need to switch off the tap when I'm not using it and recently my showers have been shortened - I tend to contemplate life during mediation (ooh la la stop judging) rather than in the shower. However I am guilty of throwing away glasses of water just because I'd prefer a fresher one.
In the UK we're SO privileged to have drinkable running water in the UK but just because it's 'on tap' for us, doesn't mean we should take advantage of it. Due to more people using more water, water supplies are strained and natural water supplies (like rivers and lakes) are being drained, affecting wildlife and habitats.
So from now on left over water in glasses will go straight onto the house plants, I won't avoid life in the shower or use stupid amounts of water when washing up. Hey, it's gunna help your water bill!

RECYCLE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
Okay, recycling. I'm sure you think you've heard it all - blah blah blah recycle. But it's true.
1 billion tons of plastic have been discarded since the 150s - and it's just floating in the ocean, creating mass landfills  and excreting harmful chemicals into the environment. It's no joke. Recycle most of your plastics, metal, glass items and paper.
Make sure your items are clean before recycling, it's a two second job. Nobody else is going to wash it out for ya, and if you put your dirty items in the recycling they ain't getting recycled!

TRY GOING VEGGIE OR VEGAN
Okay, calm down. I'm not preaching or telling you to try your diet.
Just giving you food for thought, pun intended.
Now I'm not a vegan and technically I'm not a veggie - I don't eat red meat, but looking at the stats it IS a lot better for the planet to avoid eating meats like beef, lamb and beef. In the UK alone, 2.6 million cattle, 14.5 million sheep and lambs, 10 million pigs and 950 MILLION BIRDS (dats a lotta birds.) That's all I'm gunna say - I'm not telling you to change your diet immediately or make you feel guilty. Just putting the idea out there.

TURN OFF YOUR LIGHTS
Probably one of the very easiest ways to lower your own bills AND save the environment. Turn off your lights ANDDDD sockets. If you're nipping out don't leave your lights on until you get back, or leave your XBOX on in the background until you get back later. Every little thing adds up and if you're not the room, turn off the lights and any unwanted sockets. Electricity is mostly made in power plants that burn fossil fuels and other material to create the energy. And that ain't good for the envionment.

Lots of love,
Grace
